A piece I made that I'm proud of is the glasses painting. I really like the ways the colors work and how I got a feel for my artistic style
This was a new meduim for me since I've never used clay before. I wanted to do something fun/ cute for me and my friends to take off to college, so I put their school and name on the little cups. They're small enough to keep jewelery and stuff in. This was my main screen print for the Art fair and I would consider it very successful. A lot more people than I imagined came to get this screen print which was super awesome. I wanted to create something that would appeal to kids my age. This was my re-do project. Originally this design failed because I scraped off the gel with the filler. So since I could still see the pencil marks I decided to try it again. This piece was my No since I hate using oil paint. It feels very nice and soft but I don't like how the colors will easily blend. This shows a girl looking towards us with a lake and mountains in the back, I think it's very relaxing. This piece was done with water color and mixed media. I printed out the pictures and painted the back. I wanted to make a quaint piece based on what makes North Carolina since I'll be moving far away soon. Part B: A piece I made that I'm proud of is the glasses painting. I really like the ways the colors work and how I got a feel for my artistic style The most challenging for me was the figure drawing unit. Trying to draw peoples bodies in 2 minutes is very challenging, but I got better at drawing facial features throughout the year. What I took away from Art 3 was what kind of artistic style I have / want to build upon, and which would be mainly pop retro kind of art. I learned some fun techniques I can take with me through life (mainly screen printing).

1) During this unit I learned how to layer acrylic paint and create dimensions. I applied these techniques while painting the glass on the glasses (to be able to see the red behind them) and when painting the boxes (to created a 3D effect).
2) I planned this by first thinking about what summarizes me, which is funky sunglasses and being classic. I just wanted to inerwine these themes into a more retro art piece, so layering the words and glasses was a modern touch. I found it humorous how my final turned out well, but I did forget to outline the center of the O (classic Graci mistake). 1) During this unit I learned how to perceive the facial features differently, and how to apply them to my work. Noticing highlights, hair texture, bumps, and the overall structure of faces is what I've noticed particularly in this unit.
2) I wanted to draw an athlete that really inspires me in all areas (and is from North Carolina), so Michael Jordan is for sure that one. I started with the hardest part (his face) then progressed to his jersey (which was surprisingly easy given the texture of the paper). I like how his face turned out, I feel like it's very similar to his real look, but I think his face is a little wider. I'm really proud of how this turned out! (Sorry for no progress photos, they were on my last phone that broke) 1) My piece is not finished and I ran into some complications with the screen filler, so I will not be able to finish it.
2) My complaint for this was about people who complain about things but choose to do nothing about them. I applied the quote "Never Complain, Never Explain", which basically means- do what you can about things you want to change, and you shouldn't have to answer to those who do nothing. This is a good philosophy, so why not print it on a shirt for the world to see. 3) I planned my work by breaking down all the screen printing process, and painting up a rough draft of what I wanted on the shirt. I believe if I was able to get to the final step, and put the words with white ink on a black shirt that it would have been very successful. For my prisma I decided to draw my two best friends, Elise and Katie. I chose a pretty challenging picture, but since I've never actually drawn people before I thought it would be interesting. I believe I did good on the colors and blending the skin, but what I messed up on was their eyes. On Katie they are a little crooked and Elise's aren't big enough for her face. I definitely achieved in depicting the placement of Elise behind Katie (which I actually thought would be more difficult). Overall this was an enjoyable project and I think I was very successful with Prisma.
1) I used my trite concept in an original way by trying to perceive someone else's perspective of the symbol. My trite symbol was a Peace Sign, so I tried to imagine an old man's perception of peace and tranquility. For me I visualized an elderly man who lives on one of the gorgeous bayous in Louisiana, who goes canoeing every night as the moon is rising to restore his peace.
2) The composition of my art is very diverse, ranging from different prisma techniques, and various color schemes. Up close the detail may be lacking (given I went for a pretty ambitious scenery), but I believe the general colors and idea make my art successful. My decision to do the boat was debateable, but I think it tied in the piece nicely. (Also I don't have a picture of my planning with me but I will try to post that later) "What is a technique you used in your artwork that worked well?" - One thing that I thing worked really well for me was the use of water color paints. I saw the original picture on tumblr and really liked it. So I tried to recreate it with a less pigmented look so I used water colors, which I work really well with. This is one of my favorite projects. "Sketchbook: pick any warm-up from your sketchbook that you found beneficial, interesting or simply felt you handled well" - I really liked this warmup because it forced me to incorporate parts of nature into art, which I really enjoyed. I think my idea was very creative, but this warmup challenged me the most. "Choose a place or artwork where the subject matter reflects you as an artist. One that you have a personal connection to. Please explain." - This drawing reflects me as an artist because it captures my use of detail and my self expression. Palm trees are my favorite plant and I wanted to make it look leisurely so I added a hammock too. Defiantly one of my favorite pieces for that exact reason. " Do over: If given the opportunity, which project would you do over? Describe why and how you would redo this project. Reasons might include choosing a different theme, using a different medium or creating a different idea completely. Include photo." - I would redo this project because I really don't like how I did the brush, mainly the shading. I wish I would have added better details to it. Also I wasn't really sure why I chose a paintbrush, I wish I would have picked something a little better. I also don't think I work with charcoal very well either. I didn't really make any plans for this project, I went on Pinterest for some inspiration, which you can locate under a folder with my name. I like to do art in an impulisive way, not really sit around and think about what I'm doing, just do it. My first project was a weaving. It took me about 3 weeks to weave a 5 inch piece onfortunately. The colors were baby blue, soft brown, and creame. I then stitched my moms initials in black in the weaving so she can hang it on the wall. The hardest part was mental indurance, and I like how it turned out. My second project was aesthetic artwork. I went with the light tint to both of my pieces and went for a black picture on both of them. I really like how they turned out, because they will look really good beside each other in a black frame, and these were pretty easy for me to do. I stand for confidence! I believe everyone should feel confident in their skin, whether it be confidence in your gender, sexuality, personality, your body, or even your style! My uniform is something I feel confident in (Audrey Hepburn inspired). My piece is incorporating the words waffle, and morning time. My first layer is different blues and pinks paper mâché. I printed off a picture of a waffle and used gel medium to apply that. I cut out letters and pictures from magazines to add the title to my piece. One of my other layers was the glitter I applied to the edges of the bottle. I decided to add strings on top of the blue to give it a 3-D effect. Lastly I used sponge and the roller on the bottom to add more differnt pinks and reds. (Pinterest Board link: I used your account, the folder is my name) |
